As a children's nurse, I've seen babies suffer enormously due to infections such as gastro-enteritis, and ear infections, due to NEVER having received the protection of breast milk, with all the vital antibodies. I am "old fashioned" enough to believe that breast feeding is "babies' birthright" and that formula feeding should be reserved for those cases where breast feeding is not possible. I think the attitude towards breast feeding should be the same as the attitude towards smoking, - many years ago, expectant Mums weren't asked "how would you like to feed your baby?", - but it was ASSUMED that all Mums would breast feed, especially considering that some long term illnesses such as certain childhood cancers, and juvenile diabetes (which can even BLIND a child) are less frequent in breast fed childrenChrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14419835779622927609noreply@blogger.com
